Summary |
J. David Laidig notes that the 1870 Census is especially fascinating for two reasons. First, it is the first census following the Civil War. Second, the Census was taken in the same time fram as A. Pomeroy's 1873 Map of fulton County. In regard to the civil War, a review of the Census as a whole reveals many households headed by widows who are running farms with their older sons or hired laborers. Other widows are living with relatives and friends. |
