Jonathan Hager, Founder of Hagerstown, Maryland, was one of the most important early settlers of western Maryland. He was a legislator, soldier, and businessman, as well as the man who laid out the design of Hagerstown, then referred to as the village of Elisabeth's Towne, named after Jonathan's wife, Elisabeth Kerschner. History has recorded his many deeds while here in Maryland. Many books have been written about him and his days in the American colonies and specifically in Hagerstown. |
