This booklet presents 16 letters written during the American Civil War by Dr. Lafayette F. Butler, M.D. to his second-born son, James Edwin "Eddy" Butler, and three wartime letters written by Dr. Butler's first-born son, Charles Edgar Butler, to his younger brother James. Dr. Butler lived in East Freedom, Blair County, Pa. and traveled from there to join the 13th Pennsylvania Reserve Regiment in Virginia. During this journey he had dinner in McConnellsburg, and traveled on and spent the night at Elliott's Hotel just south of Mercersburg, Pa. [Welsh Run]. This information came from a letter written home to his son. |
